Chattanooga City Councilwoman Carol Berz’s sudden passing, late last year, left an open district seat on the City Council, after a 15-year term in office.

In the January 28th Council Meeting, the city council members appointed her daughter to an interim position to fill Councilwoman Berz’s seat until the March 4th Election.

Long-time District 6 resident Jennifer Gregory got the call and was asked to run in December, citing the need for a fresh perspective in District 6.

Jennifer Gregory Wants Every Voice To Be Heard In Chattanooga District 6

She decided to answer the call, step up, and run eager to play a pivotal role in Chattanooga city government and its upcoming changes to these city council seats.

“I believe the people of the district are ready for a change, I want to make sure every voice in the district is heard.”

“I’ve held diverse leadership roles in restaurant management in the food and beverage industry and founded two non-profits and one professional organization.”

“With this experience, together with my fellow community leaders, we can have an incredible impact on Chattanooga’s District 6 and the future of this community.”

First Time Candidate Who Understands Leadership Roles

While she has never personally held political office, Jennifer Gregory is no stranger to the challenges of running for and winning elections.

Having managed several campaigns for women in the Chattanooga area, Jennifer understands leadership roles and what it takes to win an election.

“One of my proudest accomplishments is working in local Chattanooga elections and running campaigns for women of color.

In my first race, we won by 15 votes as a first time campaign manager and a first time candidate against a 14-year incumbent. It was quite the accomplishment that many said could not be done”.

A Native Chattanoogan Who Understands Hardworking Families

Perhaps most importantly, Jennifer Gregory knows and dearly loves the Chattanooga and Brainerd area community.

Born and raised in Chattanooga in the East Brainerd area she attended elementary school, middle school, high school, and college locally.

Gregory graduated from the University of Tennessee Chattanooga with a degree in Anthropology.

One of her areas of specialty was Primate Behavior, working closely with a professor and an Orangutan who used sign language and lived at the Atlanta Zoo.

Paying her own way through college, Jennifer spent decades in the food and beverage industry before becoming a small business owner and stepping into her current role as one of Chattanooga’s most trusted real estate agents with a fair housing designation and Residential Construction Certification.

Raised by loving parents who both had regular working shifts, Jennifer was taught the importance of hard work at a young age.

“My mom was a dedicated nurse and administrator at Erlanger’s Emergency Room all through my childhood, she is truly an incredible lady.

The leadership of my mother inspired me to become a passionate advocate for the under-served and under-represented.

My father graduated from Kirkland High Vocational School, and his work downtown at a printing factory taught my brother, sisters, and I the value of that type of education.”

Endorcement From A Former County Commissioner

A founder of several non-profits and professional organizations, Jennifer has been quietly and consistently working to better the lives of those around her and is a passionate advocate for the financial, physical, and mental health of neighbors and community members in need.

Positive community development, according to Jennifer Gregory includes: taking on the complex issues of affordable housing, compassionately addressing the area’s homeless population in a fiscally responsible way, advocating for the economic development of the diverse small business owners in the district, and making neighborhoods safer and stronger.

“We affect many of these policies by ensuring Chattanoogans are earning a living wage, which, at the moment, is significantly lower than the national average.”

About Gregory, Former County Commissioner Katherlyn Geter says:

“I wholeheartedly endorse Jennifer Gregory for the City Council District 6 seat because she possesses the heart and fortitude to engage directly with residents while building essential relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Politics is fundamentally about people and their connection to government, and Jen’s successful background, combined with her genuine passion, enables her to foster this vital connectivity for sustainable change.”

Jennifer also has support from the Greater Chattanooga Association of Realtors as someone who understands the complexity of zoning and development being balanced with community input from community members and neighborhood associations.

Supporting Our First Responders

Regarding the upcoming municipal election, Gregory says:

“I support the important ballot measure on March 4th, which proposes a change to living requirements for first responders and city employees. Voting YES on this amendment enables us to recruit talent into the city to support some serious first responder shortages.”

“Every single vote matters in local elections – especially in city elections where voter turnout is historically so low being so soon after the Presidential elections.”

Make your voice heard and vote for Gregory who is ready to work with Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly, at City Hall with her fellow new City Council members, and all members of the local community to ensure Chattanooga remains a safe, prosperous, beautiful, and equitable place to call home.
